Designed to be lifted full and engineered strength for maximum flexibility.

When your operation demands the ability to move tanks while they’re full, Southern Tank has the solution. We design and build steel tanks specifically engineered to be lifted while holding liquid — an essential feature for operations requiring on-site repositioning.

Whether you’re supporting remote fueling operations, portable chemical systems, or job site water storage, these tanks are constructed for strength, safety, and long-term performance under load.

What Are “Lifted Full” Tanks?

Tanks designed to be lifted full are structurally reinforced to support the full static weight of the tank and its contents during lifting. These tanks include integrated lifting lugs and an engineered lifting frame calculated to meet the safety factors required for lifting loaded tanks with cranes or other equipment.

They are commonly used in:

  • Oil & gas sites – for relocating full tanks between fracking pads or well sites
  • Construction and mining – where portable fueling or water storage needs to move as the project advances
  • Remote power generation – including lift-ready diesel tanks for generator skids
  • Emergency response and military operations – where tanks must be rapidly deployed or repositioned
  • Agricultural and rural operations – for mobile water and chemical storage

Key Features of Southern Tank Lift-Ready Tanks

  • Heavy-Duty Steel Construction – Designed with additional reinforcements to safely support full lifting weight with a 4-point lift or from fork tubes on the bottom of the mud-boat design which gives additional spill protection.
  • Available in Double Wall Configurations with built-in secondary containment
  • Engineered sizes available are 550, 1175 and 2300 gallon capacities
  • Coatings and Linings – Optional corrosion-resistant finishes or internal linings for chemical compatibility (requires a 24” manway)

Engineered for Safety and Mobility

Southern Tank lift-ready tanks are not standard tanks with added lugs—they are purpose-built from the ground up to withstand the dynamic forces of lifting under full load. Every component, from shell thickness to lifting hardware, is calculated to ensure safety and performance in real-world lifting conditions.

Engineering calculations are for sizes noted and for #2 diesel fuel only. Unit must be lifted from all four lifting lugs using lifting cables or chains at minimum length for the capacity of the tank.

  • 550 – 6′-6″ each from a single lifting point – full unit is 6,800#
  • 1175 – 7′-6″ each from a single lifting point – full unit is 14,500#
  • 2300 – 9′-3″ each from a single lifting point – full unit is 25,500#
